The Golisano Children’s Hospital music therapy program, established in 1997, serves over 900 pediatric patients yearly at no cost. Certified therapists help patients from birth to young adulthood cope with hospitalization through music listening, creation, and procedural support. Goals include emotional processing, relaxation, skill development, and socialization. Services are offered individually and in groups, though group programming is currently on hold due to COVID-19. The NICU program, unique in upstate New York, provides evidence-based music interventions to promote premature infants’ neurological development.
